Doctor

  • Dr. Amanda G Tarter

Dr. Tarter joined our team in May, 2008. She grew up on a dairy farm in Nancy, Kentucky and always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Tarter obtained her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, and went on to graduate from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She has a strong passion and talent for emergency medicine. Before joining us in May, she completed a 13 month internship in small animal emergency medicine and surgery. She went on to practice at American Animal Emergency in Deerfield Beach and Emergency Pet Care of Jupiter.

Dr. Tarter is newly married to Thomas Reed, who is a Ft. Lauderdale Narcotics Detective. Together, they are raising a family of 3 cats and 3 dogs. The oldest of the 6 is Abbey who is an 11 year old long haired calico kitty. Next is Sasha, a 6 year old Dutch Shepherd Dog working as a Ft. Lauderdale Police narcotics detection canine. Morgan is a Jack Russell Terrier who attended vet school with Dr. Tarter and keeps us on our toes here at the hospital. Buffalo is a 2 year old Chocolate Lab who is an avid Buffalo Bills fan and thinks that the garden hose makes an AWESOME chew toy! Thurman, their 2 year old tuxedo kitty is in love with Morgan. The baby of the family is Stella. She is an 8 month old kitty who was rescued from the rafters of an old building and thinks her job is to eat and torture everyone in the house.

When she’s not working, you can find Dr. Tarter in the kitchen whipping up something yummy, or spending time with friends and family. She has a terrible weakness for pizza, ice cream and vegetable soup.

Kennel

  • Kristen Perkins

Kris came to Silver Lakes Animal Hospital in December of 2007 to join our team in our pet resort. The rest of the team and our four legged guests have loved her from the beginning! A true lover of pets and people alike, Kris enjoys every aspect of her job. When all her work is complete, she can be found spending time giving our guests some extra special attention. Her career goal is to become a social worker or therapist so that she can help others (we’re sure she will find a way to use dogs in therapy!) In her spare time, Kris enjoys watching movies, going to the mall, visiting new places and taking tons of pictures. She gets her inspiration from her two best role models, her late Mother and her aunt. Kris is also a dog trainer, and would adopt every homeless dog out there if she could! She’s off to a good start with her lab/beagle mix, Cody, and her Heinz 57 mix, Mya. We are proud to have Kris on our team!
